2019: New Year, New Conferences

We’re just a few weeks into 2019 and already our conference schedule is filling up. The first month of the year was marked by several new conferences. While we love seeing familiar faces, it’s a satisfying feeling to know that even more first responders are now prepared when families ask the difficult question of “what next?”

Fresh Take in Florida

Senior manager Rodney Tower kicked off 2019 in sunny Florida with a visit to the Florida Police Chiefs Association (FPCA) Winter Conference. The event was hosted in Orlando January 6-7th; attendees consisted of police chiefs from cities throughout the state of Florida. According to the organization’s website, the group was formed in 1952 for the purpose of promoting “legislation that would enhance public security by providing superior police protection for the residents of Florida and its many visitors.”

In addition to information and other booth giveaways, Aftermath awarded two $50 gift cards to FPCA attendees. Chief Melanie Bevan of the Bradenton Police Department and Chief Bernadette DiPino of the Sarasota Police Department were the lucky winners.

Aftermath currently has three offices in Florida. “The conference was a good opportunity to solidify our relationships with law enforcement in the state of Florida,” Tower explained. “We spoke to chiefs who had heard of us, and some were interested in contractual cleanup for public areas (jail cells, squad cars). We look forward to connecting them with our teams in the coming year.”

New Year, New York

Meanwhile in the chilly Northeast, Senior Manager Ken Rosa braved the winter snow to attend the New York Tactical EMS Conference and Expo in Melville, NY. As it is only in its second year, this was another first time conference for Aftermath. Attendees included EMS personnel (Ambulance, fire, etc.), police officers, and fire personnel.

“EMS personnel were especially interested in our services, as most had never heard of biohazard cleanup before,” Rosa reported. Others were pleased to learn that Aftermath’s New York offices are able to provide assistance to families residing in more distant areas such as Long Island.

Colorado Calling

On the opposite coast, Aftermath’s Rocky Mountain contingent was also hard at work through the snow and cold. For the first time, Senior Manager Tony Cusinato shared biohazard information at the County Sheriffs of Colorado Conference. The organization provides “education and professional assistance” to officers and Sheriffs, and promotes unity among departments to best “serve and protect the People of the State of Colorado.”

Though it was a smaller event, the conference was characterized by great interactions. Aftermath gave away both a conference and booth prize; Lt Thomas Whelan of the Summit County Sheriffs Office was one of the winners. “There were many good conversations at this event,” Cusinato said. “The Sheriffs asked great questions about Aftermath’s approach to business, including our No Obligation Assessment and how our client representatives work diligently with home insurance to help families manage the cost of services.”
