Last week, Aftermath Senior Manager Rodney Tower attended the Tennessee Chiefs of Police Conference in Knoxville, TN. The three-day event featured vendors, speakers, and seminars, as well as networking opportunities for law enforcement professionals. Chiefs and other professionals in the LE industry came from all over the state to visit with service providers and learn more about innovative offerings designed to help them assist Tennessee families.
According to the TACP website, “The Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police was formed over forty years ago by Chiefs Joe Casey, Joe Fowler, and Bobby Williamson in order to improve the professionalism and communication among police chiefs and other officials locally and statewide.”
In addition to the association’s annual conference, TACP also hosts a mid-year vendor expo, plus regular training meetings and other learning opportunities. The association meets every other month in the Nashville area. Events allow members to receive additional training, keep up with best practices in the field, discuss current events, and share information relevant to the protection of the public.
This year’s TACP conference boasted over 100 vendors, selling everything from uniforms to safety equipment. Aftermath had the distinction of being the only biohazard cleanup company at the event. “Some of the attendees were uncertain about what we do,” Rodney explained. “Others had already heard of us, and some have even used us to help clean jail cells or squad cars, or referred us to members of their communities.”
One chief humorously described a situation where a K9 and his handler had stepped out of their vehicle to let the K9 stretch, and the four-legged officer found himself the victim of a skunk attack. This led to a discussion about decomposition and the nature of the cleanup business.
In addition to great conversations, Rodney kept things lively at the Aftermath booth with plenty of giveaways. He passed out hand sanitizers, notepads, pens, and other goodies, and also awarded two grand prizes. Captain Philip Dunn of the Alcoa Police Department won the door prize, and Chief Sam Livingston of the Hohenwald Police Department won the booth prize. Both winners received a 5.11 tactical bag with PPE kit, plus an Aftermath shirt.
Throughout the year, Aftermath participates in conferences like TACP, as well as educational seminars and other special events designed to inform law enforcement personnel about our services and the importance of professional crime scene cleaning. We also routinely sponsor grants and awards directed at the police community, such as our recent Why We Serve grant competition and our very popular Annual K9 Grant. We also sponsor a special LE interests Facebook, called Aftermath Cares, which promotes and shares information of interest to members of the police community.
