Aftermath Partners with Total Medical Compliance
Aftermath Services is a nationwide specialist in biohazard remediation and crime scene cleanup. In an effort to provide comprehensive services to customers during their time of need, Aftermath is proud to partner with other reputable businesses throughout the nation. As industry leaders, part of our work is educating our customers. Aftermath technicians are knowledgeable and compliant in all local, state, and federal regulations concerning the cleaning and disposal of hazardous biological wastes. Therefore, it’s natural that we would recommend the highest quality training to those businesses who are more routinely faced with specialty cleaning situations.
Once the purview of the medical and health industry, biohazards in our environment have been making the news quite a lot in recent years. Food recalls, outbreaks of measles and even Ebola, are bringing the hazards of contamination to the public’s attention. Containing and removing biohazards is Aftermath’s primary business, but we have many partners in this work. One of them is Total Medical Compliance (TMC).
Meet TMC
TMC offers OSHA and HIPAA compliance solutions for medical practices, funeral homes, and related business industries. They have the expertise in regulatory requirements regarding infection control. The company was founded in North and South Carolina in 1996 to provide quality OSHA compliance training and support. Over the years, TMC added HIPPA compliance to their line-up. Still a family-owned business, today they serve thousands of practices and work with a variety of business associates.
Karen Gregory, RN, is the Director of Compliance and Education for TMC. Karen brings over 20 years of management and outpatient experience to her work developing compliance materials and training consultants and clients. She is a frequent speaker for professional organizations and at conferences nationwide on OSHA, HIPAA and Infection Control. Karen will be joining Andrew Whitmarsh and Laura McGowan from Aftermath Services in a segment on Innovations on the Discovery Channel in the fourth quarter. We hope you will tune in.
About Biohazards
Biohazards are agents such as a bacteria and viruses that pose a threat to people and/or animals. Typical biohazards come from blood, feces, vomit, urine, and other body fluids. The primary reason for concern is contamination and the spread of infection. Blood and biological materials need to be removed quickly and completely in order to avoid potential contamination, damage and liability. Besides hospitals and medical offices, this is a concern for police cars and stations, food processing plants, restaurants, and other public facilities
The safety of all workers is mandated by OSHA. Consumers and the general public should never be at risk of harm.
When there is a spill of blood or body fluids there is a correct way to address the situation. Knowledge and proper training about cleaning supplies, tools, disposal and incident management are crucial to preventing infection.
Even in a residential environment it is important to ask the question: Is this something I can safely manage myself? The key take-away for the public is to remember that no matter how small the amount, all blood or body fluid carries the potential risk of bloodborne pathogens. If you are not trained to handle these types of situations, reach out to someone who is trained to keep you and your family safe.
