Meet Rolando Barrientez, Senior Manager, Aftermath Texas

A small town Texas boy turned police officer in a big city.  Sounds like the plot of a best seller, but Rolando Barrientez, Aftermath’s newest Senior Manager of Law Enforcement Relations, is the real deal. From a career in law enforcement to his new role as liaison, Rolando describes himself as the typical Southern gentleman: “Politeness, friendliness, congeniality. That’s how I was raised.”

Texas Charm Meets Professional Experience

Rolando comes to Aftermath from a strong law enforcement and EMS background. In the last 20 years, he has served as a patrol and field training officer, supervisor, academy instructor, police sergeant, and detective. When work related injuries led him to start considering a second career, he returned to school. While still employed as a police officer, Rolando earned his Masters in Health Care Administration from the University of Incarnate Word.

Six months ago, he was recruited to his latest position by Aftermath’s senior management. “I bring three aspects to the table: the EMS side, experience in the field of law enforcement, and work in the private sector. I would like to see the company continue to grow and reach out to new communities by bringing these areas together.”

Today, Rolando’s territory includes Texas, Arizona, and other parts of the Southwestern United States. “My role at Aftermath allows me to use more than just my law enforcement background,” he states. “My passion as an educator is an important part of what I do, too. I have the ability and trust needed to help educate officers on the subject of biohazard remediation and bloodborne pathogens. There is a wide range of information out there about it, and I give them the opportunity to learn more. Even if they never have to call Aftermath themselves, they will have the knowledge and a sense that at the end of the day, they are able to go above and beyond to help families who may be confused about what steps to take following a tragedy.”

On the Road Again

To Rolando, one of the most difficult yet exciting aspects of his work is the travel. But he handles every meeting with an easy Texas charm. “I routinely visit Houston and Dallas, which means a 4-6 hour drive each way. I am on the road almost every week.” Recently, Rolando returned from San Antonio, where he spoke to officers and officials with several departments. Aftermath is preparing to open a new office in the area during the first quarter. In December, he met with Nicole Spears, Aftermath’s newest supervisor in Phoenix, AZ.

With another convention season just around the corner, Rolando is preparing to hit the road again. “I love attending conferences, and having an opportunity to meet people from all over, including detectives and command staff.  Last year, I went to three conferences, one right after the other – Las Vegas, Dallas, and San Diego, each in a different time zone. At each event, I met people from around the US. At the ROCIC training conference (the Regional Organized Crime Information Center) in Dallas, I even met Taya Kyle, wife of American Sniper Chris Kyle and Executive Director of the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation, and had her autograph a copy of her book.”

When he’s not busy travelling, Rolando is an active volunteer with his local church, as well a participant with the Boys and Girls Club and Lions Club. Despite long hours and a full schedule, he is a certified CPR Instructor and American Red Cross volunteer, and also acts as an adjunct professor at a local community college.
