In a welcome turn of events, the U.S. House of Representatives has introduced an amendment to the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide a tax credit to ensure that businesses are properly cleaned and disinfected when ‘‘stay-at-home’’ orders are lifted and to help prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Representatives Darin LaHood (R-IL) and Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) introduced the bipartisan amendment dubbed the ‘Clean Start: Back to Work Tax Credit Act’ on May 29. This piece of legislation aims to assist businesses reopen safely for workers and patrons alike.
The combination of using experienced, professional cleaners and EPA-approved cleaning products are critical in helping prevent the spread of COVID-19 as businesses begin to reopen in their respective states. Unfortunately, many businesses are not trained in infectious disease cleaning, lack the proper products, and do not possess the necessary permits/certifications for lawful disposal of contaminated elements.
The Clean Start: Back to Work Tax Credit Act would provide a $25,000 tax credit per business location capped at $250,000 per business entity, helping businesses defray professional cleaning costs associated with curbing the spread of COVID-19. The tax credit would be temporary and may be used to help offset the costs of professional cleaning services, purchasing EPA-approved cleaning products, sanitary-related equipment (ex: sanitization stations, no-touch disposal receptacles, etc.), as well as training employees on proper cleaning protocols. Qualified expenses would also include personal protective equipment (PPE).
As a responsible business owner you want nothing more than to provide a safe working environment to employees and the ability to deliver your products or services in the safest manner possible. Partnering with a professional coronavirus cleaner for enhanced cleaning and preventative disinfection provides you the necessary tools to revive operations and resuscitate the economy.
Testing surfaces, especially high-touch surfaces, is critical in curbing the spread of COVID-19. If you partner with a professional coronavirus cleaner, be sure to ask for verifiable surface testing after disinfection.
With some research showing traces of the virus can be found on surfaces for up to 17 days and so many other unknowns, it’s important to take every precaution. Verifiable surface testing utilizes RT-PCR technology to determine the presence of SARS-CoV-2, the viral cause of COVID-19, on fomites and hard surfaces. Surface testing adds additional measurability and accountability, and is critical to both proactive controls and efficacy of containment measures. Paired with continuous defense disinfection and/or full service disinfection, verifiable surface tests ensure that your business, employees, and customers have the best protection possible.
