Final Countdown for the 2016 K9 Grant Competition

As October comes to an end, so does the 2016 Annual Aftermath K9 Grant competition. In its fifth year, the event has led to over 100,000 votes from thousands of participants across the nation. Many readers have caught up with our blog posts, and tracked their local department across social media.

We’d like to extend a big, heartfelt thank you to all the law enforcement agencies and their supporters who have participated so far. It’s your commitment to the public that inspires us and reminds us why we do what we do here at Aftermath.

This Week’s Top Dogs

In our book, all K9 officers and their partners are winners. However, there can be only one leader of the pack in the $5000 Aftermath K9 Grant. Though we’ve narrowed down the top contenders for the grand prize, we want to remind you that the voting is INTENSE. It’s still anyone’s game at this point, so keep spreading the word and voting for your favorite.

EDIT – Here are the top 5 Departments as of  4PM CST today!

  1. Alamogordo PD – Alamogordo, NM
  2. Larksville Boro PD – Larksville, PA
  3. Johnson City Village PD – Johnson City, NY
  4. Pekin PD – Pekin, IL
  5. Matteson PD – Matteson, IL

Create Your Own Happy Tail

Several of the top five departments have successfully used local media as a way to get their message out to locals. Others have campaigned on Facebook and Twitter, spreading the word among their followers. Last week, KRQE in New Mexico featured the story of the Alamogordo officer whose passion for protecting his community lives on after his death. Sadly, Officer Clint Corvinus was killed in the line of duty last year. According to the article, the officer’s goal was to introduce a K9 unit to the Alamogordo Police Department, an effort he’d been working on for nearly 2 years. The Aftermath K9 Grant could make this possible for the small department.

We’d like to wish good luck to Alamogordo, and to all the other departments who entered. Your stories are part of what makes our K9 Grant such an exciting and important event. Keep voting, and we’ll see one of you  in the winner’s circle!

Stay Tuned for Exciting Updates
