Aftermath at the 2018 International Association of Coroners & Medical Examiners Conference

We had a great time once again at the International Association of Coroners & Medical Examiners (IAC&ME) Training Conference. The annual three-day event was hosted at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino on Freemont. The conference was attended by Coroners, Deputy Coroners, Medical Examiners, and their associated staff, including death and forensics investigators.  Officers from the city, county, state, and federal levels were also present. Tony Cusinato, Aftermath’s Senior Manager of Law Enforcement Relations, represented the company.

A Showstopper of a conference

“We’ve been attending IACME for a few years now because this is consistently a great conference,” said Tony. “Everyone is always very friendly and interested in the services we provide. The MEs wanted to discuss our relationship with homeowners insurance, and they were curious to learn about how our no cost estimates work. They expressed gratitude when we reminded them that we are nationwide, and cover all of the lower 48 states.”

Over 400 event attended professional training workshops and seminars, and networked with colleagues and vendors. Guest speakers included Phylip J. Peltier of Peltier and Associates, whose presentation on scalding burns was fascinating and educational.  Another featured presenter, Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg, took attendees through the events and investigative process surrounding the Las Vegas shooting that occurred last October

Aside from scheduled training sessions and speeches, there were plenty of networking opportunities to keep IACME attendees busy. Said Tony: “Monday night, conference goers were invited to attend Mystere, the newest offering from Cirque du Soleil; Tuesday night included a vendor’s show, followed by a pool party social. ”  Of course, guests also took advantage of the resort’s prime location; the Las Vegas Strip features popular casinos as well as shows and live music venues.

Giveaways 

As in years past, Aftermath enjoyed a great location in the vendor’s hall, directly in front of the main entryway. Further, Tony reported that the conference staff were very attentive: “Jen Thorton, who was running the conference, did a great job making sure the interaction was there. The layout of the show was very successful, and it allowed us to have some amazing conversations, and attract many visitors to our area.”

At the booth, Tony passed out padded notepads, air fresheners, water bottles, hand sanitizer and pens. He also hosted a drawing for a 5.11 tactical bag. The winner was Santa Ana Coroner and Chief Investigator, Rosa Vera. Aftermath also contributed a door prize to the IACME raffle.

Three days feels like only a few hours when you’re in Vegas, and this is especially true when you work a high energy conference like IAC&ME. Tony is already looking forward to the 2019 show.
