We had a great time once again at the International Association of Coroners & Medical Examiners (IAC&ME) Training Conference. The annual three day event was hosted at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino on Freemont. Over 400 attendees attended professional training workshops and seminars, and networked with colleagues and vendors. Rolando Barrientez, Aftermath’s Senior Manager of Law Enforcement Relations in the South, and Stephen Brown, Senior Director of Marketing & Sales, answered questions and visited with guests.
“We’ve been attending this show for several years and it’s always one of our favorites,” Rolando said. “The smaller vendor area makes it very engaging for us. This year we had a great location right up front by the entrance door and coffee table; many MEs stopped by more than once just to socialize. Everyone is always very friendly and interested in the services we provide.”
In attendance at the IAC&ME were Coroners, Deputy Coroners, Medical Examiners, and their associated staff, including death and forensics investigators. Officers from the city, county, state, and federal levels were also present, and even a few chaplains.
Aside from scheduled training sessions and speeches, there were plenty of networking opportunities to keep attendees busy. “The first night is vendor night reception where drinks and hor d’oeuvres are served, and attendees and vendors relax and enjoy each other’s company. It gives visitors an opportunity to learn about the vendors and vice versa.” Of course, guests also took advantage of the resort’ prime location; the Las Vegas Strip features popular casinos as well as shows and live music venues. Other planned outings included a pool party social and comedy night show.
At the booth, Stephen and Rolando gave away padded note pads, air fresher, water bottles, coffee mugs, carabiners, hand sanitizer and pens. The team also raffled off a few great prizes: 2 $25 Visa gift cards and a 5.11 tactical bag and gift card set. Detective Richard Hall of the Las Vegas Metro Police Department was the grand prize winner.
“The attendees who had never heard of us before took the time to learn more; they asked some great educated questions and walked away with some of our table side goodies. They were happy to hear that we service the entire lower 48 states with teams ready to deploy to assist the families as well as provide a no obligation cost estimate.
Others had already heard of Aftermath and expressed gratitude for the assistance we provide to families all across the nation. “Many coroners and MEs told us they give our information out all the time to assist families. Several even said that they’d heard of us directly from families in their area; they know that we provide excellent services to those we have assisted.”.
Three days feels like only a few hours when you’re in Vegas, and when you work a high energy conference like IAC&ME this is even more true. But aside from all the glitz and glamour, Rolando and Stephen both expressed that the best part of the entire event was being able to learn a bit more about the attendees and their unique roles.
No matter what part you play, we know you give your everything to help families in need. Your commitment is an inspiration to us all. For this reason, Aftermath is always looking for ways to thank officers and other members of law enforcement for the work they do. This month, we’re wrapping up our #WhyWeServe contest. Visit our website and watch as the four finalists share their stories. Then vote on which one you think should receive the $5000 service grant for their charity or organization. It’s a great way to support your fellow officers!
