Sniffing out crime is no easy task, but thanks to the grant presented by Illinois-based Aftermath Inc. to the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, the greater New Jersey area will soon benefit from the addition of another K-9 unit.
On January 27, 2014 Essex County representatives were presented a $5,000 check from Aftermath, an Illinois-based crime scene clean up company.
The grant is made possible by the ‘Aftermath Cares’ Campaign and is part of the company’s ongoing mission to recognize the dedication of law enforcement professionals nationwide. The addition of a K-9 unit will help the Essex County Sheriff’s Department with drug arrests, bomb threats and to track criminal suspects and lost persons, along with other civic duties.
“We work closely with law enforcement professionals and we witness many of the obstacles they must overcome in order to serve their communities, including cuts in funding for their departments,” said Tim Reifsteck, co-founder of Aftermath. “This grant is a small steps toward helping the Essex County Sheriff’s Department keep their community safe and we look forward to hearing about the success of their new K-9 unit.”
Aftermath’s campaign has allowed other agencies like the Lower Allen Township Police Department in Pennsylvania to purchase and train a K-9 unit.
