Aftermath Attends the Midwest Forensic Training Conference

It’s never too early in the year for a good conference! On January 4th, Aftermath Senior Manager of Law Enforcement Relations, Tony Cusinato, visited the Midwest Forensic Training Conference. The two-day event was held at the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy (SLEA) at the Homeland Security Center of the College of Dupage in Glen Ellyn, IL.

State-of-the-Art Training

This was the third year for the conference and Aftermath’s second time in attendance. The conference attracted forensic professionals from local Law Enforcement Agencies, Crime Laboratories, Coroner’s Offices, Medical Examiner’s Offices and other related organizations.

Part of what makes the MFTC unique is its state-of-the-art location. According to the CoD website, “The Homeland Security Education Center (HEC) is a 66,000 square foot $24 million dollar state of the art training facility that features a full scale indoor street scene, forensic and cybercrime labs, command center to instruct NIMS protocols, smoke room with movable walls for EMS and fire rescue simulations and an outdoor scaling and repelling tower.” Attendees participated in hands-on activities, documenting/collecting/processing real physical evidence in a lab environment or in mock crime scenes. Special workshop topics included crime scene photography, fire evidence collection, and bullet hole documentation.

Because the training conference is local to the Aftermath’s home office, the majority of officers were already familiar with the services offered by the company. Some expressed gratitude for the work of Aftermath’s technicians.  Tony reported: “I regularly heard officers state that they wouldn’t want to do our job, and many of them commended us for providing a difficult but necessary service.”

Aftermath Supports Law Enforcement

While visiting the conference, Tony gave away one of the company’s signature  5.11 Tactical Bail Out Bags with a PPE kit. The winner was Brad Caliendo from the Wheaton Police Department. In addition to brochures and literature, Tony also passed out carabiners, air fresheners, hand sanitizers with the company logo.  “The new phone wallets were an especially big hit with attendees,” he said.
