Sailing Away with the Texas Funeral Directors Association

It was a tropical good time at last month’s Texas Funeral Directors Association Conference, held at the Moody Gardens Hotel on Galveston Island. This year’s theme was “Island Time,” and sailing away on this three-day adventure was Aftermath’s Funeral Home and Fire/EMS Specialist, Ben Dirks.

The conference was held across the street from a popular water park attraction, so visitors had the opportunity to bring their families along as they attended workshops and seminars. Organizers decided to combine the first day of exhibits and their Welcome Party on Tuesday evening.  Attendees had the opportunity to check out the vendors and enjoy hors-d’oeuvres while listening to a band called The Spazmatics.

Diving in at the TFDA Conference

According to the website, the Texas Funeral Directors Association is a professional organization composed of funeral directors, embalmers, and sales staff whose mission is to promote and improve the funeral profession and consumer relations through education and legislative representation.

On the first day of the conference, Ben dove right in and spoke to attendees on how biohazard cleaning can help protect and assist the families in their communities. Aftermath was the first bio company to attend the TFDA conference in a long while, and guests were very interested in hearing about the company’s services. Said Ben: “There are still a good number of professionals in the death care industry who are not aware that there are specialized services designed to help families who need cleanup after experiencing the death of a loved one. It’s always a good feeling to leave directors feeling as if they have a new tool to assist their clients in need. It’s what we’re here for!”

The business portion of the event consisted of the vendor’s area, as well as informative workshops, guest speakers, and seminars to keep TFDA members updated on information concerning their specialized line of business. Many attendees were also invited to a formal gala and awards ceremony where dinner was served. At the conclusion of the conference, Aftermath awarded one lucky TFDA member a $50 American Express gift card. The lucky winner was Ben Diaz, Funeral Director/Embalmer with Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City, TX.

Aftermath and Directors

For over 130 years, TFDA has been aiding directors and families throughout Texas. Aftermath is a proud supporter of TFDA and other organizations like it around the US. “We received a great reception from TFDA members,” said Ben. “We look forward to visiting again in 2019.”

Directors play an important role in seeing to the needs of those impacted by the death of a family member or friend. We had a great time sailing away with the wonderful and welcoming members of the Texas Funeral Directors Association.
