Visiting the Wisconsin Association of Homicide Investigators Annual Training Conference

The Wisconsin Association of Homicide Investigators (WAHI) held their annual training conference April 24-27th and Aftermath’s Senior Manager of Law Enforcement Relations, Patrick Leone, was on hand to share the company’s mission with WAHI members and other officers.

What is WAHI?

WAHI was founded in 1996. The aim of the Wisconsin-area organization, according to the website, is to “further the education of its members and all law enforcement.” During the annual training conference, WAHI brings in the best trainers from all over the world to share their expertise on a variety of subjects.

This year’s conference was hosted in the Wisconsin Dells at Kalahari Resort. WAHI members include local, state and federal law enforcement officers, coroners, and medical examiners. Over 200 professionals attended this year’s conference. Not limited to just Wisconsin officers, members attended from all over the US.

In addition to a vendor hall, the event featured speakers and seminars on well-known cases. Featured this year were cases like the Multi-State Suitcase Killer, Serial Killer Robert Spangler, and the Aaron Hernandez investigation. Topics covered everything from digital forensics to the application of the NAMUS unidentified and missing persons database. Members of the WAHI Cold Case Review Team were also present throughout the event, offering their expertise to peers with cases of their own.

Visiting the Vendor Hall

Between seminars and networking events, conference goers visited the vendor hall to learn more about new services and products available to assist them in accomplishing their work. Throughout the day, visitors stopped by the Aftermath booth to learn more about biohazard cleanup. Patrick answered questions and distributed material related to crime scene cleaning and safety; he also raffled off a 5.11 Tactical bag and PPE Kit. The winner was Detective Patrick Esser of the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office of Wisconsin.

Other vendors also sponsored giveaways, and there was a charity fundraiser for an officer who was killed recently in the line of duty. A members awards ceremony was held on Friday, and lunch was provided each day at the resort.
