Trauma scene cleanup is rarely simple. Aftermath’s dedicated service staff is experienced in a wide variety of situations, including suicides, homicides, and unattended deaths. When a friend committed suicide in his bedroom in Sacramento, California, a woman phoned Aftermath and spoke to one of our caring service team. Within a short time, trained technicians arrived onsite to begin the remediation.
In the bedroom, bedding was removed from the bed where the death occurred, exposing a pool of biological fluid on the mattress.
Layer by layer, technicians disassembled the mattress to separate contaminated materials, which were disposed of as biohazardous waste. When the mattress springs were revealed, it was noted that biological fluid had leaked down to the bottom of the mattress. One technician used bolt cutters to remove the affected mattress springs, thereby allowing a second technician to cut and extract the first bottom layer of the mattress with a utility knife.
With all furniture safely removed, Aftermath technicians could effectively clean, sanitize, and deodorize the home. Their hard work helped enable survivors to return the home, knowing that all physical traces of the tragic event had been eliminated.
